During my lawful sidewalk protest on January 11, 2026, Tom Fetter, who was associated with a Rotary / “Mr. San Diego 2025” event, approached me and started a conversation. According to my recollection, he first stopped his vehicle in a way that impeded traffic near the driveway/turn area while speaking to me. He asked how long I was going to stay there, and I told him I would stay as long as it takes. He responded in substance that it might take a year. He later came back and continued the conversation on foot.
According to my recollection, Mr. Fetter raised several personal and work-related topics during this interaction. In substance, he referred to my background, said I was “too smart for this job,” mentioned my family and suggested that I should take their advice and stop what I was doing, and also asked about my interest in attending a Rotary / “Mr. San Diego” event. He also raised workplace issues such as uniforms and tried to frame the situation as if I had simply failed to comply with store rules. He minimized the privacy issue in substance by comparing it to ordinary grocery-store practices, which I strongly disagreed with.
What stood out to me was that this was not a short or casual exchange. In my view, it reflected concern about the growing public attention around this location and about the broader reputational consequences of the situation. During the interaction, I made clear that I preferred communications through counsel and that I did not consent to being recorded. I also made clear that I was standing on a public sidewalk and was there peacefully.
According to my recollection, Mr. Fetter also asked whether I wanted to come back to work. I said no. The conversation reinforced my view that the company was trying to manage or contain the fallout of what had already happened, rather than address the underlying concerns directly and transparently.
This is my account of that interaction based on my recollection.
